Apologies for the selfish request...
I have a brass cone burner, and I notice that after each burn, a film appears around the ring of the lid. After enough burns, if left unattended, the film can run down the sides. Any ideas on simple solutions (besides not using the burner :) )??? Take care -

I can't think of a better solution than that...
burning anything that contains resinous ingredients in a semi-closed container is going to leave a residue. if it builds up for too long, it could become a fire hazard. -

Mon, January 7, 2008 - 7:14 AMThanks for the replies. A q-tip seems to do the trick. I was curious if anyone had a better solution than cleaning. It certainly does not take long for it to get messy. But - only a minor inconvenience. Take care everyone - -

Re: Small Query - Brass Cone Burner
Wed, January 9, 2008 - 11:40 PMwell, if it really bugs you that much, you can always leave the lid off.
Then instead of that resin building up on the inside of the lid, it will just accumulate on your walls, plants, draperies and carpet.
Good times, i tell ya... -

I'm just used to the stick dust pollinating my home, so it was a surprise when the sludge came creeping in. I like my cone burner though, it's growing on me. Thanks for taking the time to reply.

Re: Small Query - Brass Cone Burner
Sat, January 12, 2008 - 11:38 AMUsing stove ash (or other ash filtered) makes a good burning medium, especially went buring pellets or small pieces.
I usually dust the inside of the burner lid with ash to cut down on the wet sticky accumulation.
But the film that develops can get gummy and when it does a small piece of steel wool works well for cleaning off metal.
