sooo i open my mail order package, and im expecting dried leaves/flowers? i got large spiky seed pods that are still green (fresh?) and filled with multiple seeds. so my plan is to break open the pods and dry them and use in an infusion or in incense?

any hints/suggestions?

    hi Amber
    I found this at Erowid.com: www.erowid.org/experiences/exp.php
And i thought it might be useful info for you even if your intentions are not to ingest the plant. If you were to burn the seeds and be anywhere in the vicinity of the smoke, you could experience effects similar to those mentioned in this fellow's story. It sounds like infusion is the way to go, perhaps as the foundation of a gem elixir.

I would personally dry the whole pods rather than break them open, to keep in harmony with the way they would naturally dry on the vine.

If you do the infusion, use very few seeds, or way more water then you think is necessary. Go gentle on yourself, cause Datura is deadly poisonous in certain quantities, and its very easy to excel your limits. I ate a single seed once, and for 6 hours, I felt like I was pleasantly drunk.

Be careful with it in incense too. You don't need alot. Its the signpost, not the bricks in the road.

funny, I've always loved datura and have been cultivating it for 1-2 years. Mainly datura metal. My friend today just gave me a book by carlos castaneda "the teachings of Don Juan: a Yaqui way of knowledge" I'm excited being told that datura is a prominent plant involved in the book. I believe a good read to get a good idea........

I've used Our Fair Lady Datura for over 20 years as a spirit ally. She is really not for the casual experimenter, the line between intoxication and death being so fine.... a Daturo (datura maestro) could help along the way.... her witchcraft is too difficult for most to get coherant help from.

In ancient times the holy women from greace and rome, from the slavic to the keltic, the all used the power of her divinity lady Datura, she has many names, but all these re the same in once,

My grandmother used to take them for prophecies and so do I.

I mix them in a special incense and inhale the scent and so her spirit takes me to the answers I search for.
I only use it when i need to because she is a verry demonic spirit and can take you to hell!

pleas be shure that you have a: a good Quality, B: always remember that even one plant has several different dosages, and always take it lite by litle.
Same ist for : Heleborus, Hyuscamus, Mandragora and Atropha.

Please take care and have some one with u who has nothin intus.

Blessings and lots of positive energy

            Krys

Lucky man! The slugs eat mine. They come from miles around to eat my Mandrake.

I love datura. I was horrified at the effects when eating the seeds but that stuff can grant some evil powers for sure!
Now I have a huge amount of REALLY strong Pomande de Toloache made from bear fat and several pounds of fresh datura.

Why don't you just capture the distilled essence/ hydrosol from the entire pod/seeds (since you don't have the flower). A few drops of the hydrosol in water - taken a few drops twice/thrice a day - is a sort of energy body rehab that you have to keep on for a month or two to 'break old energy patterns and start new ones'. I have tried this, and I had some sort of sudden vertigo a few minutes after every dose, but it did magic for me in managing old emotional downward spirals.

Being mindful when using datura as a plant medicine should be advised. Thanatose medicines can be fatal almost by definition.
Some people are just sensitive to the atropine others (with heart challenges) can be deathly allergic.
Personally Id rather smell the flower to feel the medicine of this plant than either ingesting or burning the leaves, herb or seed.

But used magically with intention can still be more powerful than potency or strength.
A safe in between use of datura in incense might be to set fresh blossoms in a fixative like orris root; then after the essence has set, sifting out the infused powder to use instead of burning the plant.
