Hey guys, I was flipping through the catalogue for an occult shop that I used to frequently give my business to back in the day. Anyway, they corresponded herbs and essential oils to certain planets in a way that I *very rarely* see! They correspond the following plants to the subsequent associations:
* Neptune: Intuition, inspiration, psychic ability & visions [Willow & Wisteria Oil].
* Uranus: For "energy", change, health, visions & hastens events [Nutmeg Spice & Oil].
* Pluto: Dreams, recalling deep memories and past lives [Poppy Seeds & Dark Musk Oil].
So, to this end I am wondering if thgere are any classic occultic literature that attributes such "uses" to these 3 outer plantes? Or even any such "classic" occult lit. that attributes certain herbs and oils to them, even the Qabalah (I'm presently away from my Library for the moment and cannot check for this final point). This is one potential fascet of Magick that I never really see discussed.
Take Care,
Wade MacMorrighan

Re: Correspondences for the Outer Planets?
Mon, October 8, 2007 - 3:32 AMNo, no and no...
it's very very wrong to do so! (Okay, I'm being slightly jokey, but I'll explain why)
First and foremost; classical occult literature does not deal with these planets because they technically don't exist yet! and now pluto isn't a planet of course! Classical literature deals with the 7 classical planets. Most classical literature is based on neoplatonic philosophy, or at least relies quite a bit on it. Therefore you have seven planets, the heavens/stars, the firmament and then God or the 'Prime mover'. Yuo don't have other planets.
Second of all, modern wise occultists do not use these planets. The reason is VERY briefly included in the works of a early 20th century occultist and naturopath called 'Franz Bardon'. He states, as a small sentence in one of his books (I wont bother referencing, you can just trust me or go and read the books!), that the outer planets do not have a direct effect on Earth and our astral sphere, so therefore are not included in correspondances or 'sympathies' of our planet/sphere. Outer planets are therefore not seen as having an influence on anything 'sub-lunary'.
Also, Kabbalistically, you cannot show the outer planets on the tree of life. The tree of life symbolises everything and is a map of every correspondance... so they cannot have correspondances. They may correspond to other things, but do not have direct correspondance on herbs plants or materials in occult thought.
The attributions you see here are not grounded in occultism, but probably the 1960s new age movement which of course do use the outer planets, trans-saturnian.
Hope that helps!?

Re: Correspondences for the Outer Planets?
Wed, October 10, 2007 - 11:20 AMAs I seem to recall, it was Aleister Crowley who dealt and experiemented with these planets, Magickally, in his later lit. (a book he wrote about astrology, I believe). ;o)

Take a look at Magical Incense by Dave Lee. He has the attributions in the back for all the planets and it's a great little book for incense too.
The only place you can get it is from www.IOTBooks.com.

Re: Correspondences for the Outer Planets?
Sat, October 13, 2007 - 10:05 PMI am also one of those seven classical planet folks.
However, it is fairly easy to take the herbs that are associated with Scorpio for Pluto, like opopanax
Aquarius for Uranus, mastic maybe
Pisces for Neptune, storax
Not that I approve of those crazy outer planets mind you. -

Re: Correspondences for the Outer Planets?
Sat, October 13, 2007 - 10:25 PMthe extensive website for alchemy works has a whole section devoted to planetary correspondances (including those pesky outer planets)
www.alchemy-works.com/planetary_corresp.html
i may not agree with some of his choices, but there is a lot of good info there
