The post about Datura reminded me that i will soon have a ridiculous number of poppies in my garden (anyone want seeds?). I don't know how my landlord will react when he sees them. He's rather curious about all the Buddhas and the prayer flags...i sure hope he doesn't freak out and make me pull them up.
So if they make it to maturity, it will be the first time i've had my own poppies with which to do whatever i please. I adore the seed pods and have some ideas for creative projects including painting little faces on the dried pods and making stick puppets out of them. But what about incense? Does anyone have recipes that include poppy?

Re: poppies
Thu, May 8, 2008 - 12:56 PMI have read a few recipies that include poppy seeds. Most Poppies are not terribly aromatic. The once exception being the one poppy that is illegal to grow in the US (at least probably without some kind of high end specialty permit) and trying to purchase it from over seas is also closely monitored. That is the poppy used to make opium. -

Re: poppies
Sat, May 17, 2008 - 10:03 AMactually I favor using poppies in my incense batches
especially my successful batches of the past
literally haha
anyhoo I find it adds texture to the actual incense when making cones and sticks
it gives some pop and crackle if not powdered
Poppy seeds I find to be slightly sweet
the effect is relaxing and almost narcotic
I use it in very small amounts in love incenses usually more for
atributes outside of smell
though it isn't foul :) -

Wed, June 11, 2008 - 9:07 PMoh yes
Poppie seeds of the opium variety are legal for sale
specifically sold for incense use actually haha
anyhoo making a Poppy batch witch the infusion, quality seeds (ground?), FE (mother?)
could prove intriguing
currently I'm interested in adding homeopathic Belladonna
into a batch not sure how the lactose would smell
and it's relatively safe since only minute amounts of the active ingredient are in the medicine
I like to take it for it's energetic effects
Boiron tastes the best but I got some Hyland
more pills for the buck
