The legend of the Jiki-ko-ki, or "incense-eating-goblins." They are the ghosts of those who for the sake of profit, made or sold bad incense and by that karmic action now find themselves as hunger-suffering spirits and compelled to seek their only food in the smoke of incense.

Re: Incense demon
Sun, March 9, 2008 - 5:54 PMI am in a charitable mood so I will assume that the persons behind making-incense.com may not realize that they have lifted this from www.japanese-incense.com which was created by the US rep for Baieido incense. The actual passage about the goblins is from Lafcadio Hearn.
They are "hungry ghosts" and not really demons.
Now... if you want "demons" then you would want Exu of Cheiro, who is the Exu who rules over incense, flowers and all perfumes.
I am not a practitioner of Quimbanda so I will not say more, since dealing with Exus requires a fair amount of respect and experience.
